Marie Mainil

A native of Belgium, Marie Mainil holds a B.A. in International Relations from Drake University and a M.A. in Political Science from the New School for Social Research. While in New York, she was a Women in International Leadership Fellow at International House and a student fellow at the India China Institute. She has taught in China and done field work in India on “development projects, human displacement, and the U.N. Global Compact.” She has served as a counselor to Middle-Eastern and South Asian youth at Seeds of Peace International Camp, and as a Program Associate on U.N. and Asian issues at The Stanley Foundation.

Her research and policy interests include civilian protection, peacekeeping, the rule of law, the Responsibility to Protect, civil society, forced displacement, the United Nations, and artistic and philosophical performance in conflict transformation. She has presented her work at several international academic conferences.

Marie recently worked as a Communication Coordinator/Survey Manager for the Program on International Policy Attitudes in Washington, D.C., and is presently an independent consultant. A Division I tennis player in college, Marie continues to enjoy playing tennis in her spare time.
